Kids are sponges for learning. They never cease to amaze us with the little things they pick up (whether good or bad!) from observing the world around them, experimenting on their own, or by listening to instruction.

With kids out of school for the summer, and possibly already complaining of “not having anything to do”, why not introduce them to something new and provide opportunity for ongoing fun and learning? Kids also love it when we take the time to connect with them over a common activity. This makes it a perfect time to pick up a new hobby or try a new activity together as a family.

Here are just a few examples:
Cooking or baking
Yoga
Photography
Art work
Hiking
Biking
Origami
Knitting or crocheting
Collecting (e.g., stamps, coins, rocks)
Gardening

Many hobbies require little to no materials, or simply things that you already have at home, and you can find guided instructional videos for pretty much everything on YouTube.

So, follow your child’s example and keep on learning!  And even better: do it right alongside them.

Tell us in the comments what you are doing to learn alongside your kids!
